What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file your browser stores on your device when you visit a website. Cookies let the site remember things between page loads (like your preference for this very cookie banner) and, in some cases, let third parties measure how the site is used.
This site uses cookies sparingly. Our primary analytics is cookieless (Cloudflare Web Analytics), which stores nothing on your device.
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the site to function. They do not need your consent under the PECR Article 5(3) exemption. They do not identify you personally.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
__cf_bm |
Cloudflare bot management - blocks abusive traffic before it reaches our server | 30 minutes | Cloudflare |
compass-law-cookie-consent (localStorage, not a cookie) |
Remembers your choice in this very banner so we don’t ask again | 12 months | This site |
Analytics and third-party features (only with your consent)
These only load if you click Accept all or turn on “Analytics and third-party features” in the cookie banner. Until you do, none of these services is contacted.
| Service | What it does | Cookies | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics | Counts visits and shows, in aggregate, which pages are useful. IP address anonymised; no advertising or personalisation signals | _ga (2 years), _ga_* (2 years) |
|
| Elfsight website translator | Lets you read the site in another language | Set by Elfsight under its own policy | Elfsight |
| ReviewSolicitors widget | Shows our independent client reviews | Set by ReviewSolicitors under its own policy | ReviewSolicitors |
We do not use Google Ads or any other advertising cookies. Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, also counts page views without consent. If we ever add a new service that sets cookies, we will update this table and ask every returning visitor for fresh consent before it loads.
Third-party services with their own cookies
Some pages link to, or embed, services run by other companies: our matter intake form (matter-intake.co.uk) and the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s verification badge. Where one of these sets cookies, it does so under that provider’s own policy, which is linked from the page concerned.
How to change your preferences
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking “Manage cookies” in the footer of any page. This reopens the cookie banner and lets you toggle Analytics on or off, then save.
You can also clear or block cookies through your browser settings. Each browser is slightly different - search “cookies” in your browser’s preferences, or see allaboutcookies.org for plain-English instructions for every major browser.
Our analytics posture
We deliberately use Cloudflare Web Analytics as our primary measurement - it is cookieless, beacon-based, and stores no personal data, so it does not need your consent. Google Tag Manager loads only with explicit consent. We do not use heatmaps, session recording or third-party retargeting pixels.
